Edina Launches Neighborhood Social Network

The city of Edina has signed up for Nextdoor.com, a private social networking site devoted exclusively to forming relationships between neighbors.

Residents can now ask questions and trade information with their neighbors through the site, which restricts membership by street address.

‘‘Edina is excited to support neighborhood initiatives and communication with our new Neighborhood Association Policy,” Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt said in a statement. “Through Nextdoor, the City will be able to post information by neighborhood, and reach neighbors quickly.”

Residents of Edina's 45 official neighborhoods can register for the site for free.

“Nextdoor is a secure but very effective way to get connected with your neighbors,” said Edina resident Hope Melton, whose Concord Neighborhood has been using Nextdoor since September. “It's great for selling things, asking for a babysitter, organizing a picnic or whatever you want to do. It builds a sense of community, and gets you lots of useful information!"
