Edina Offering Pickleball Clinic Wednesday

The clinic will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in Garden Park.

If you're wondering what the heck pickleball is, you're not alone.

The relatively new game combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong to create a completely new experience. The game is played with a wiffle ball and wooden paddles.

And if you're eager to learn how to play pickleball, Edina's Parks & Recreation Department has your back.

The is hosting a free clinic from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, at . 

"Pickleball is a very accessible to just about everyone, regardless of age or athletic ability," said Donna Tilsner, Recreation Supervisor. "It is a great family game; children and seniors can both excel."

The game is played on a surface only about half the size of a regulation tennis court, with the wiffle ball traveling at only about a third of the speed of a tennis ball. 

The free clinic—provided you're an adult and reserve a spot by calling Phyllis Gwiazdon at 952-833-9572—will teach attendees stroke technique and game strategies, plus allow everyone an opportunity to experience the game. Equipment will be provided at the venue.
