Edina Police Stop Two Fleeing Motorcyclists

Justin Coe Meyer and Trevor Andrew Schultz of Fargo, N.D., are charged with fleeing police on their motorcycles on June 3.

Two Fargo, N.D., motorcyclists have been charged with leading Minnesota State Patrol officers on a high-speed chase that ended when Edina police stopped them on the Valley View Road exit ramp off Highway 169.

Justin Coe Meyer, 22, and Trevor Andrew Schultz, 24, are charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jennifer Watson, a patrol officer noticed two motorcycles traveling together June 3 at a speed that “appeared visually faster” than the posted 60 mph speed limit.

The two were clocked at 72 mph, and were traveling about 70 mph when the officer activated her emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop in the area of westbound Interstate 494 and Interstate 35W, the complaint says.

The car in front of the two motorcyclists pulled over immediately, but the motorcyclists didn’t respond, according to the complaint. The officer turned on her siren, and one of the motorcyclists, later identified as Meyer, glanced behind him at the patrol car several times, but neither biker stopped.

The officer pulled up alongside the other motorcyclist, identified as Schultz, and motioned for him to pull over. He shrugged his shoulders, the complaint says.

Edina police blocked the exit ramp from Highway 169 to Valley View Road. Meyer and Schultz took the ramp and were forced to stop at the top of the ramp, according to the complaint.

Meyer and Schultz are free on separate $10,000 bonds. Omnibus hearings in their cases are scheduled July 6 in Hennepin County District Court.
