Edina Residents, Students Among National Merit Scholars
Three students with local ties are among the latest recipients of National Merit Scholarship college-sponsored awards.

Several students with Edina connections are among more than 2,000 winners announced as the last round of National Merit Scholarship college-sponsored award recipients.
They join more than 2,500 recipients announced in late May, for a total of nearly 4,600 scholars. Officials with each sponsor college select scholarship winners among finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program planning to attend their institution. The awards provide $500-2,000 annually to students for up to four years of undergraduate study.
A total of 197 colleges and universities are sponsoring the awards this year, including 117 private and 80 public institutions.

The latest college-sponsored National Merit Scholars with Edina ties include:
- Edina resident Teresa A. Blackman, who recently graduated from Chesterton Academy in St. Louis Park. Blackman will attend the University of Dallas this fall, with plans to major in English.
- Edina resident Anne Schulberg, who recently graduated from . Schulberg will attend Carleton College in Northfield this fall, with plans to major in engineering.
- St. Louis Park resident Rebecca R. Brooks, who recently graduated from . Brooks will attend Grinnell College in Iowa this fall, but has not yet decided on a major.
This is the final group of National Merit Scholar designees announced in 2012, bringing the total number of scholars to approximately 8,100. The graduating high school seniors will receive scholarships worth a total of more than $35 million over the next four years.
