Edina’s Braemar Golf Course Hires ‘Rising Star’ As New PGA Director
Tommy Koehler was an All-American at St. John's University and spent the past three years as an instruction golf professional at Braemar.
EDINA, MN — Braemar Golf Course in Edina has a new PGA director, one who grew up playing on the course.
Tommy Koehler, 30, was named the next PGA director of golf after working for the past three years as an instruction golf professional at the course, 6364 John Harris Dr., according to a news release.
Koehler was an All-American at St. John’s University before spending five years as an assistant professional at Woodhill Country Club in Wayzata, the release states.

Braemar Golf Course General Manager Joe Abood called Koehler “a rising star” in the region’s golf industry and said the city and course are “fortunate to have him on staff.”

“Tommy is knowledgeable of the golf industry, organized to handle a large staff, experienced with both high-end public and private club operations, and is an excellent instructor,” Abood said in the release.
Koehler said his goal is “to get as many people interested in golf as possible,” and he plans to focus on youth programs and bringing in new golfers.
“The pandemic has increased interest in golf, and we would like to keep that momentum going,” Koehler said in the release.

Koehler said he is excited for the Braemar Pro-Am, scheduled to be held in August. The event benefits PGA Reach Minnesota, which offers golfing opportunities to youth, military members, veterans and people with disabilities, the release states.
“I love that the Braemar Golf Dome offers the opportunity to improve your skills year round,” Koehler said. “The Academy 9 course is perfect for people who want a quick round or are just starting out, and the Championship 18 course itself is incredible.”
“It is rare to find that many options all in one facility,” he continued. “Braemar has been a great fit for me professionally and for my family.”
