Edina Team Places 5th in Math League State Tournament
The Edina Public Schools students traveled to St. Paul last week to compete against mathletes from throughout Minnesota.

A team of skilled mathematics students from Edina Public Schools competed against some of the best minds in the state last week, traveling to St. Paul to be part of the Minnesota Mathematics League State Tournament.
The EHS team placed fifth in the state by the end of the competition, with several individual students taking part in an invitational event for the top 60 mathletes in all of Minnesota.

- Kenrick Bjelland (9th grade)
- Elbert Wang (11th grade)
- Allen Ouyang (11th grade)
- Stephen Kim (11th grade)
- Luke Peilen (11th grade)
- Kevin Lu (11th grade)
- Cindy Jiang (10th grade)
- Alan Lu (Alternate, 9th grade)
Peilen, Lu and Jiang all participated in an individual invitational event for the top 60 mathletes in all of Minnesota. Lu's individual event score qualified him to participate in the Math Bowl, which sees the top ten students compete in a speed round of seven difficult math problems to crown a Math Bowl Champion. It was his second year in a row taking part in the festivities.
The Edina team might have not taken first place, but they still had a strong showing overall. The team ended the tournament by scoring a perfect 24 out of 24 on its final team test, giving members plenty to look forward to next year.
