EHS Grad's Anti-Bullying Documentary Debut Screening Set

Recent Edina graduate Alec Fischer's "Minnesota Nice?" will screen at the Edina Cinema on Friday, June 29.

Minnesota Nice?, an anti-bullying documentary filmed by 2012 graduate Alec Fischer, will officially premiere at the this Friday, June 29.

The documentary film will debut to the public at 6 p.m. at the 50th & France theater, with another screening slated for 7 p.m.

With only 260 seats available for each showing, tickets will be handed out at the door on a first come, first serve basis starting at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tickets will be free, but donations will be accepted at both screenings and guests are encouraged to bring cash to donate.

The film focuses largely on gay, lesbian, bisexual and trangendered students who are bullied, primarily because of the number of recent suicides in Minnesota due to anti-gay bullying.

When Edina Patch , he said he's concerned about other kinds of bullying as well, including bullying based on weight, race or social standing.

"You recognize huge problems [with all kinds of bullying] that we still have to deal with as a society," he said.

There are no set plans at this point, but Fischer said schools throughout the state have been contacting him to inquire about potentially showing the film this fall to students, teachers and staff.

Fischer has already raised more than $2,500 through Kickstarter to help cover the cost of finishing the film and screening it in Edina, though additional donations will be accepted through the website through Saturday, June 30.
