EHS Students Collaborating with Patch for May Term
Be on the lookout for articles from Edina seniors Erik Rehnberg, Monica Omodt and Krystal Walker.
I can distinctly recall walking into the office of my hometown newspaper back in high school and asking them if I could do some writing—free of charge, of course—to help build my resume. The editor said something nonsensical about not having anything available and ushered me out of the front door.
I was crushed, but also more determined than ever to fight my way into the field of journalism. Nearly a decade later (yikes) and I'd say I've done pretty well for myself. As if finding a job in the industry wasn't enough reason to celebrate, I've even taken home a few awards for my work. Needless to say, I'm over that initial rejection.
So when three students approached me about possibly collaborating for their May Term projects, I was thrilled to be able to help them out. , and are working with me through the end of next week to learn more about the profession and get a little bit of real world experience to add to their resumes. And judging by what I've seen, it's a great deal for all parties involved.

You'll see their names popping up on the site a bit over the next week or so, as they're going to be writing about other students' May Term projects (clever, we know) and covering a few local news stories outside of that. If you want to learn more about their experiences, be sure to head to Edina High School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 4, to enjoy their and every other May Term participants' presentations.
We're also working on more long-term collaborative efforts between Edina Patch and Zephyrus, the student newspaper at EHS. Stay tuned for more on that in the future.
