Falling Tree Branches Cause Power Outages for Edina Homeowners
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for May 30-June 5.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of May 30-June 5:
May 30
- Nine incidents requiring Emergency Medical Service by paramedic firefighters.
- A gas leak was reported in the 4500 block of Drexel Avenue. A stationary gas space heater in the basement was leaking. The gas company arrived to repair.
May 31

- 14 EMS responses.
- A tree fell and took down power lines in the backyards of homes in the 6100 block of Westridge Boulevard. Fire crews kept people away from the backyards until Xcel Energy arrived and disconnected the power at the pole.
- A report of arcing power lines was investigated in the area of Vernon Avenue and Tracy Avenue. No problem was found, but Xcel Energy was called for follow-up.
- Paramedics and firefighters were called to investigate a vehicle crash on Hwy. 62, south of Tracy Avenue. A damaged vehicle was found abandoned.
- Three false fire alarms were reported.
June 1
- 15 EMS incidents.
- An ambulance and an engine responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy. 169, south of Hwy. 62. There were no injuries.
- A security guard making rounds at businesses in the 7500 block for France reported hearing water dripping behind a locked door and a possible smoke odor. Fire crews did not find smoke and were unable to enter the locked room. Keys were located and a leaking water pipe was found, but no fire.
- A smoke complaint was investigated in the 6000 block of Crescent Drive. A small fire in the backyard was found, illegally burning yard debris. The resident was instructed on proper materials to burn and the fire was extinguished.
June 2

- Seven EMS calls.
- A multiple vehicle crash with injuries required fire crews, paramedics and two ambulances at the intersection of West 76th Street and France Avenue.
- A report of power lines on fire was investigated in the 5800 block of Fairfax Avenue. No problem was found.
- Firefighters investigated a reported natural gas smell in the 5100 block of Skyline Drive and found no gas.
- A carbon monoxide alarm malfunction was checked in the 5400 block of Kellogg Avenue.
June 3
- The Edina Fire Marshal was called by Edina Police to investigate an arson in the 5100 block of Wooddale Avenue.
- 11 EMS responses.
- Paramedics responded to a vehicle accident with injuries that occurred on Xerxes Avenue and Hwy. 62.
- Three false fire alarms were checked.
June 4
- Nine EMS responses.
- Firefighters and paramedics responded to a vehicle accident with injuries on Hwy. 169 near Londonderry Road.
- A reported smoke smell was investigated at the at Southdale Center. No smoke or problems were found.
- One false fire alarm was investigated.
June 5
- Edina firefighters responded at the request of St. Louis Park Fire Department to the 4800 block of Hwy. 7. A dumpster was found smoldering and was extinguished.
- Five EMS incidents.
- Paramedics responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of West 58th Street and Wooddale Avenue. There were no injuries.
- A tree branch fell on power lines, causing problems for several homes in the area of the 6300 block of Mildred Avenue. Fire crews checked one home, where the homeowner reported seeing sparks. No flames, smoke or arcing were found. Xcel Energy arrived to repair.
- A carbon monoxide alarm was investigated in the 5500 block of Warwick Place. A faulty CO detector was suspected. A second CO alarm in the home did not sound and no carbon monoxide was measured on fire department gas monitors.
- Two false fire alarms were investigated.
