Former Member Returns To Edina School Board After Interim Appointment
David Goldstein, who was on the board from 2014-18, will serve until a new member is elected in November.
EDINA, MN — The Edina Public Schools board recently appointed one of its former members to fill a short-term vacancy.
David Goldstein returns to the board after serving from 2014-18. He was appointed by board members after they reviewed five applications, according to the district. Only two applicants had prior experience on the board, which current members set as a key qualification for the appointment.

The board last month invited former members to apply for a seat that was made vacant by the recent resignation of Leny Wallen-Friedman, who had served for a decade. Wallen-Friedman stepped down from the board in May due to his impending move to Connecticut, the Sun Current reported.
Members said they wanted to appoint a former member as it's the quickest way to fill the seat for a short period of time. As a former member, Goldstein will need less training than a new member, the board said.

Goldstein will serve until a new member is chosen during a special election Nov. 8, the same day as the 2022 general election. The newly elected member will replace Goldstein on the Edina Public Schools board and serve until December 2023, the end of Wallen-Friedman's term.
Goldstein, an attorney, served as board treasurer and chair of the finance committee during his previous term. Goldstein will not be sworn in and seated until late June, due to a 30-day waiting period required by state law, according to the district.
