Former NHL Player To Open Stalk & Spade Restaurant In Edina: Reports

EDINA, MN — Stalk & Spade is set to launch its newest plant-based restaurant next week in Edina, with former professional hockey star David Backes opening the location as a franchisee, according to a report.

Stalk & Spade said its Edina restaurant will open at 10:30 a.m. April 29 at 3925 W. 50th St. in the city’s 50th and France area, coining the new location “50th & Plants” in a social media post.

Backes, a Minneapolis native, played almost 1,000 games during his NHL career, which spanned from 2006-21. He played 10 seasons for the St. Louis Blues, four seasons for the Boston Bruins and two seasons for the Anaheim Ducks.

Backes and his wife, Kelly, have both embraced a plant-based lifestyle based on advice from their doctors, Bring Me the News reports.

The new Edina location is set to give away free lunches until 1 p.m. April 29 for its grand opening.

Stalk & Spade first opened in April 2021 in Wayzata. CEO Steele Smiley said this week that the brand is shifting to a franchise model and plans to open 12 new locations in 2022, with its first franchise in Edina, Bring Me the News reports.
