Hornet Hoopsters Draw Andover in Opening Round of State Tourney

The Edina boys basketball team was seeded third in the tournament, just behind Apple Valley and Park Center.

Three is perhaps Edina's lucky number.

The Edina boys basketball team drew the third seed for this week's Class 4A state tournament, which means the Hornets (22-7) will play Andover (10-19) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 20, at the Target Center.

It's the same seed the boys hockey team drew in the state tournament two weeks ago, which saw Edina clinch its 11th state hockey title. This is the boys basketball team's first state tournament appearance since 1991.

The rest of the bracket sees No. 1 seed Apple Valley (28-1) matched up against Brainerd (28-1), No. 5 Eden Prairie (21-8) taking on No. 4 Woodbury (25-4) and No. 2 Park Center (26-3) playing Lakeville North (23-6).

The Hornets have yet to play Andover this season, who defeated Forest Lake 41-37 to win the Section 7AAAA title. The Hornets lost a close game to Woodbury early this season, 72-78. Edina split its two matchups with Eden Prairie this year, falling to the Eagles early on before finally besting their conference rivals in late February.
