Police Investigating String of Burglaries in Northwest Edina

Since June 10, there have been 15 residential burglaries and seven thefts from vehicles in northwest Edina.

A string of burglaries and thefts from vehicles in northwest Edina has police on the hunt for suspicious activity in the area.

Police report 15 homes and seven vehicles have been burglarized since June 10, all in the city's northwestern quadrant. Most of the incidents took place overnight and did not involve forced entry, meaning house and car doors were unlocked.

The department is increasing patrols in the area and urging residents to call 9-1-1 to report anything suspicious.

"If you hear a suspicious noise, we want you to call 9-1-1 immediately," said Lt. Mike Nibbe. "Even if it ends up being nothing, we’d rather respond to find that out than not get called to the area and miss the suspect."

The also offers the following safety tips to reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

  • Lock all ground floor windows and doors.
  • Keep overhead garage doors down, and both the exterior and interior service door to the home locked.
  • Leave exterior lights on. 
  • Place lights and radios on timers to create the appearance of activity within home.  
  • Keep valuables out of sight and vehicles locked.  

City officials remind residents they can start a Neighbors' Home Watch in their area as well as sign up for the City's email distribution list for public safety alerts. Residents can also schedule a free security survey of their home by calling the Edina Police Department at 952-826-1610.
