The SUV was previously reported stolen from St. Louis Park, according to the Edina Police Department. It was found unoccupied over the weekend in Minneapolis, and St. Louis Park police were processing it Monday morning, Edina police said.
Police said they believe the suspects in the Edina attempted carjacking are linked to other crimes in the region, including an attempted carjacking in St. Louis Park earlier on Thursday.
The Edina Police Department is asking anyone with information about the attempted carjacking or suspects to call its non-emergency line at 952-826-1600.
Police are also urging residents to lock their homes and vehicles and remain vigilant amid an uptick in auto thefts, burglaries and thefts from vehicles.
The department said it has increased patrols and is paying officers overtime after the recent surge in crimes.
“We share residents' concern and frustration with the increase in these types of crimes in our community,” Police Chief Todd Milburn said in a news release. “We are doing all that we can with agencies across the metro to investigate these crimes and bring those involved to justice. We are hopeful that the reward will help encourage someone out there with information to come forward and work with us.”
The $5,000 reward is being offered by the Edina Crime Prevention Fund.
