Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Edina so special.

Edina is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Edina has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Did you know that Edina was originally a farming community? In the early 1900s, it was known for its creameries and poultry farms. Today, you can learn more about the city's agricultural history at the Edina Historical Society.
  • If you're looking for some outdoor fun, be sure to check out Centennial Lakes Park. This 24-acre park features a lake for paddle boating and fishing, as well as a putting course and mini golf. In the winter, it's transformed into a winter wonderland with ice skating and cross-country skiing.
  • Edina is home to the iconic Southdale Center, the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States. The mall opened in 1956 and has since undergone several renovations to keep up with the times. Today, it features over 120 stores and is a popular shopping destination.
  • If you're a fan of the arts, you won't want to miss the Edina Art Center. This community-based arts facility offers classes and workshops in a variety of mediums, as well as exhibitions and special events throughout the year.
  • Edina is also home to a number of parks and trails, including the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail. This 15-mile trail winds through Edina and several surrounding cities, offering scenic views of wetlands, woods and prairies. It's a great place to go for a bike ride or a leisurely walk.
  • The Edina Aquatic Center is a popular spot for summertime fun. It features a 50-meter competition pool, diving boards, water slides and a lazy river. There's also a separate play area for younger kids.
  • For a taste of Edina's local food scene, head to 50th & France. This shopping and dining district is home to a variety of restaurants, cafes and specialty food shops. You'll find everything from sushi to pizza to ice cream.
  • The Edina Country Club is a private golf course that's been around since 1923. It's known for its challenging course and beautiful views. In addition to golf, the club offers a variety of social and recreational activities.
  • The Edina Art Fair is an annual event that draws artists and visitors from all over the country. The three-day fair features over 300 artists selling everything from pottery to jewelry to paintings. There's also live music and food vendors to enjoy.
  • If you're looking for a unique shopping experience, check out the Galleria Edina. This upscale shopping center features high-end stores like Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton, as well as local boutiques and restaurants.
  • Edina is home to several beautiful churches, including the Meetinghouse Church. It was built in 1954 and features stunning stained glass windows and a unique hexagonal shape.
  • The Edina Art Fair may be the biggest event of the year, but there are plenty of other festivals and events throughout the year. These include the Edina Fall into the Arts Festival, the Edina Farmers Market and the July 4th Parade and Celebration.
