Three-Alarm Fire Ravages Edina Home

Crews from throughout the west metro worked together to extinguish a blaze in the 5200 block of Green Farms Road.

Edina firefighters worked alongside crews from a number of neighboring departments to put out a massive house fire in the 5200 block of Green Farms Road Tuesday afternoon.

The fire call came in at approximately 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to Communications Coordinator Jordan Gilgenbach. When crews initially arrived at the Edina home, Gilgenbach said "flames were indeed showing from the house."

A third alarm was called shortly thereafter, with crews from throughout the west metro coming out to help extinguish the fire.

The fire was put out within a couple of hours, with crews working well into the evening to ensure all hot spots within the home had been fully extinguished.

Fire Department officials report nobody was home at the time of the fire, with no major injuries reported at this point. Two pets who had been in the home at the time are unaccounted for, according to officials.

“We were fortunate no one was home at the time,” said Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer. “The fire spread throughout the house very quickly, which had the potential to be life-threatening if there was anyone inside. We were very fortunate there were no fatalities or injuries.”

The cause and origination of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation. The value of damage is undetermined, city officials report, though the home is likely to be a total loss.
