Hundreds turned out for the Edina Model Yacht Club's annual event at Centennial Lakes Park.

Bloomington Resident Dick Walker surveys the landscape at the , an event he's been attending for years. There's plenty to like, he said, as the event allows area model enthusiasts a chance to "show off what we've been doing."

A member of the , Walker said the parade seems to get better every single year. The club is celebrating 20 years of existence, many of those showcasing their handiwork at both during the Parade of Boats and regularly during the week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Walker didn't get into modeling until he retired, but said he's built about eight boats in the 15 years since. Walker enjoys building the models more than running them, particularly when it comes to the decks of the vessels.

He works from kits, mainly, but often is forced to add his own embellishments when the kits aren't up to snuff. It's a great hobby, Walker said, and the Edina club offers a great resource to anyone on the fence about getting involved.

"I would encourage anybody to try it," Walker said. "You're gluing your fingers together a few times, but you learn."
