Wintry Weekend Weather Covers Edina With Snow, Ice

More than five inches​ of snow fell in parts of Edina over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

EDINA, MN — Days are getting longer and March Madness is just around the corner, sure signs that spring is on its way. But winter was not quite ready to end this weekend in Edina.

More than five inches of snow fell in parts of Edina over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of that accumulated during an “intense” period of snowfall that lasted only two to three hours early Sunday morning, the NWS said.

Up to a quarter-inch of ice also fell in parts of Minnesota over the weekend as part of the storm that stretched from the southwest part of the state through northern Wisconsin.

Despite a few unseasonably warm days in recent weeks, Minnesotans should expect the cold to linger for a little while longer, the NWS said.

'Prolonged' Cold Air Mass Settles In Twin Cities: MN Weather

A “prolonged cool air mass” is forecast to linger across the region and “keep temperatures below the seasonal average for early March," according to NWS forecasters.

The NWS also said there is a slight chance of light snow this week, though no “significant” weather systems are expected in the region.

Mostly clear, with a low around 16. West wind around 5 mph becoming south after midnight.

Tuesday
A slight chance of snow, mixing with rain after 3 p.m., then gradually ending. Increasing clouds, with a high near 35. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Partly cloudy, with a low around 13. West northwest wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
