Now that the federal government has authorized the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for use in children ages 5-11, the Minnesota Department of Health is hosting a vaccination clinic for 5- to 11-year-olds at Hilltop Elementary School on Monday, December 13.

The clinic is located at Hilltop Elementary School, 3201 68th Street East in Inver Grove Heights, and will be open for vaccinations from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The clinic is administering the two-dose pediatric Pfizer vaccine for free to all eligible Minnesotans age 5 through 11. The second dose will be administered no earlier than 3 weeks after the first dose, which will be Monday, January 3, 2022. Now is the time to vaccinate your children age 5 and older. If you have questions about vaccines, your pediatrician or family physician can be an excellent source of information. You can also get more information from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

In its review, the federal government found the Pfizer vaccine is safe for children. It has been carefully studied in children ages 5-11 years, just like it was for people 12 and older. This process is called a clinical trial and all authorized vaccines have gone through it. Only vaccines shown to be safe and effective are authorized to be used.

Not only is the COVID-19 vaccine safe for children, it is highly effective at preventing severe illness. The vaccine will help protect your child, family, friends, and loved ones from COVID-19, and it will help them stay safe during school, sports, and other social activities.

We all want a world in which our kids can just be kids again—the vaccine helps get us there. That’s why the state is partnering with school districts to meet Minnesota families where they are as they navigate daycare, school, and work.
Getting the safe, free, and effective shot is vital to protecting our kids and slowing the spread of COVID-19. Click here to make an appointment now.

Thank you for taking action to protect your child and your family.
