In Patti Goettsch's Pine Bend Elementary School classroom, students lined up to fire homemade catapults on Friday afternoon. Several classrooms away, National Guard members timed students as they raced through an obstacle course, and even handed out push-ups to giggling grade-schoolers. If it doesn't sound like a typical school day, that's because it's not.
