Drivers: Only A Few More Days Until Major I-35 Traffic Shift

MnDot told the City of Lakeville that the I-35 South construction won't begin until after Labor Day.

Lakeville drivers have been preparing for some long-term traffic delays which were set to begin tomorrow.

The merging of traffic down to one lane between County Road 50 and Country Road 2  stems from a Minnesota Department of Transportation project, which aims to repair “shoulders, ramps and bridges along I-35 and I-35E between Elko and Eagan.”

The good news? The $20 million project won’t start until Sept. 3. According to the City of Lakeville's Facebook page:

“We have gotten confirmation from MnDot that they have changed the start date on the I-35 south to Elko New Market traffic shift to Sept. 3, not tomorrow. No reason was given.”Tuesday.

In addition to lane closures, according to MnDot, Sept. 3 will also mean the below ramp closures:

  • 185th St/County Road 60 to northbound I-35 closed. Suggested alternate: County Road 50 ramp to access northbound I-35.

  • Northbound I-35 ramp to County Road 50 closed. Suggested alternate for ramp closure: 185th St/County Road 60.
