LAKEVILLE, MN — Hilton Hotels says it is investigating an independently owned Minnesota hotel after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security accused the property of refusing service to federal immigration law enforcement officers.

The dispute centers on the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeville, where emails shared publicly by DHS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement appear to show hotel staff canceling reservations connected to DHS and immigration-related work.

In one email, hotel staff told a guest that the property was not allowing ICE or immigration agents to stay and asked recipients to pass the message along to coworkers. A follow-up email stated the reservation was canceled after staff conducted an online search and found information linking the guest’s name to immigration work.

DHS later amplified the emails on social media, accusing Hilton of launching a coordinated effort to deny service to DHS law enforcement officers. The agency said officers attempted to book rooms using official government email addresses and rates, only to have reservations canceled.

Hilton responded by distancing the company from the actions described and confirming it is reviewing the situation.

"Hilton hotels serve as welcoming places for all. This hotel is independently owned and operated, and the actions referenced are not reflective of Hilton values," a Hilton spokesperson told Fox Business.

"We are investigating this matter with this individual hotel, and can confirm that Hilton works with governments, law enforcement and community leaders around the world to ensure our properties are open and inviting to everyone."

Hilton has not said whether any corporate policies were violated or what actions, if any, could result from the investigation.

The Hampton Inn Lakeville operates under Hilton’s franchise system, meaning the property is independently owned and operated while using the Hilton brand.
