Lakeville South Football Team Dominant In State Semifinal Win

LAKEVILLE, MN — Lakeville South will play for a state championship Friday night after routing St. Michael-Albertville last week in the Class 6A state semifinal game. The Cougars scored two early touchdowns against St. Michael-Albertville and never looked back, winning 40-14.

The top-ranked Cougars scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters to open up a 40-0 lead before St. Michael-Albertville found the end zone twice in the final quarter to avoid a shutout, according to statistics from MN Football Hub.

The Cougars held a 14-0 lead after running just three plays on offense, with junior running back Carson Hansen twice punishing fumbles by the Knights with long touchdown runs.

Cougars quarterback Camden Dean completed two touchdown passes in the second quarter, one to senior tight end Chase Androff and one to Hansen to open up a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Junior running back Ian Segna added to Lakeville South's lead with a 4-yard touchdown run with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter before Hansen capped the Cougar's scoring with a 47-yard touchdown run.

The Knights hit back in the fourth quarter to cut into Lakeville South’s commanding lead, with junior running back Conner Luongvan scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run before senior Jarrett Bennett converted a two-point attempt.

Senior quarterback Owen Neros connected with Rylan Maynard on a 12-yard touchdown pass to take the score to 40-14 with just under five minutes left in the game.

Zach Juckel, Owen McCloud, Mikai Stewart, Ryder Patterson and Payton Schulz were among the standouts in the Cougars’ dominant defensive display in the Class 6A state semifinal.

Lakeville South running back Carson Hansen racked up 201 rushing yards on just 14 carries and finished with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. Six other Cougars combined for another 132 rushing yards from 27 carries.

Hansen is just 41 yards away from reaching 2,000 rushing yards for the season, according to statistics from MN Football Hub.

Cougars quarterback Camden Dean only threw the ball three times, completing two passes — both for touchdowns.

Lakeville South will play Maple Grove on Friday night at the U.S. Bank Stadium in the Class 6A state final. Maple Grove dominated Eden Prairie to reach its first-ever state title game.
