Updated: 13 Maple Grove Boys Hockey Players Reportedly Suspended for Several Games

Several players from the Maple Grove Senior High boys hockey team have reportedly been suspended from play for several games.
The StarTribune.com reported the suspensions involved 13 players for at least two games, some facing four game suspensions that would start Thursday night against Blaine High School.
“The off-campus incident that was reported to school officials this week took place in mid-December,” Osseo School District School/Community Relations Director Barbara Olson wrote to Patch in an email.

Crimson Boys Hockey Varsity Coach Gary Stefano told the StarTribune.com the suspensions were from an “off-ice episode.’’
Olson declined to provide additional details about what teams - such as varsity or junior varsity - the impacted students were suspended from, citing private student data.

“What we can confirm is that an allegation that involved multiple student athletes was reported; it was investigated; the investigation found a violation of the Minnesota State High School League Code of Conduct; and consequences will be applied according to State High School League guidelines,” Olson wrote in her email.
“As a high school coach, it hurts but at the same time kids make mistakes,’’ Stefano told the StarTribune.com. “You hope something like this is a learning experience.’’
Updated Jan. 18, 2013: According to the Maple Grove Police Department, there is currently no open investigation or complaint in relation to the incident.
StarTribune.com reported Head Coach Gary Stefano along with 13 varsity players were absent from the Thursday, Jan. 17 game against Blaine High School.
Assistant coach Josh Hicks stepped in along with a "starting lineup included five skaters who have competed in nearly every varsity game this season," according to the StarTribune.com. The team came away with a 5-2 loss to Blaine.
