‘Alberta Clipper’ Could Bring Snow To Maple Grove On Friday: NWS

Vehicles are prohibited from parking on Maple Grove streets after 2 inches or more of snow fall.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove could get a few inches of snow Friday from an “Alberta Clipper” storm moving across northern U.S. states, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS said there is a 70 percent chance of snow Friday in Maple Grove, with up to 3 inches of snowfall possible.

A major snowstorm was set to hit the Twin Cities metro Friday, but heavier snow is now more likely to fall in southwest Minnesota after it shifted directions.

Up to 3 inches of snow could fall in parts of the Twin Cities metro, while up to 6 inches could fall in southwestern Minnesota counties, where a winter storm warning has been issued, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is caused by a low pressure system, fondly nicknamed an "Alberta Clipper," originating in Alberta, Canada, and moving southeast, the NWS said. The Alberta Clipper usually brings cold and snow along with it.

Hennepin County is also under a hazardous weather outlook. The National Weather Service said a mix of snow and freezing rain is possible Thursday morning, with snow likely on Friday.

Vehicles are prohibited from parking on city streets after 2 inches or more of snow has fallen, though residents can park on streets once they are plowed. Vehicles that violate the city's parking ordinances can be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.

Parking on city streets is prohibited from 2-6 a.m. year round.

Residents are also responsible for clearing public sidewalks of snow within 12 hours under Maple Grove ordinances. It is against the law to clear snow from private property or sidewalks into the street
