Baby, Toddler Among Dead In Head-On North Metro Crash

A head-on crash in Anoka County on Saturday killed three people, including two young children. A third child and a woman were hospitalized.

ANOKA COUNTY, MN — Three people were killed in a head-on crash in Anoka County over the weekend, including an infant and a 3-year-old, according to authorities.

On Saturday just after 3 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the crash in Ham Lake at Bunker Lake Boulevard and Butternut Street.

Police say an SUV carrying a man, woman, and three children was going westbound on Bunker Lake Boulevard when it crossed the median, and crashed head-on into an eastbound pickup truck towing a trailer.

Emergency responders declared both a 28-year-old man — who was driving — and a 3-year-old toddler dead at the scene.

A 6-month-old infant passenger was taken by helicopter to a local hospital, where they died. A third child — who is 7 years old — was transported by helicopter to a local hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.

A 26-year-old woman in the SUV was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she is in serious condition, authorities said. The two men in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.

On Monday, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office released the identities of those who died in the crash:

  • Lee Vang, 28, from Andover
  • Astrid Lee, 3, from Andover
  • Levi Lee, age 6 months, from Andover

The crash is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
