Driver Dies After Car Overturns, Sinks in Brooklyn Park Creek
The crash occurred amid heavy rain in Brooklyn Park Thursday morning.
BROOKLYN PARK, MN — One person died after their vehicle overturned and submerged in a creek amid heavy rain in Brooklyn Park Thursday morning.
On Thursday at about 8:25 a.m., Brooklyn Park police and fire crews responded to a crash at Green Haven Drive and County Road 81. A witness told police that a vehicle had flipped over.
Officers found the vehicle overturned and submerged underwater.

"Firefighters worked relentlessly to extract the driver, however, the vehicle was submerged in a creek with higher and faster than normal water flow due to the rain," authorities said.
Tow trucks were needed to pull the vehicle out in order to reach the driver.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by North Memorial paramedics.
The Hennepin County Crime Lab, Hennepin County Water Patrol, and Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Brooklyn Park Police Department in investigating the accident. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the driver’s name and cause of death.
