Drunk BMW Driver Hit Pedestrians On Sidewalk, Killing Woman: Patrol

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, MN — A woman is dead and a man is fighting for his life after a BMW drove into them on a sidewalk Thursday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Cody J. Jazdzewski, 35, was booked into Anoka County Jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation Friday morning.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jazdzewski was driving a 1998 BMW M Convertible southbound Highway 65 before it left the roadway at 39th Avenue Northeast, authorities said.

The BMW then struck two pedestrians on the sidewalk before coming to rest at the tree line, according to investigators.

Carrie Lynn Rivero, 58, of Minneapolis, died at the scene. James Junior Beller, 63, is being treated for life threatening injuries at the Hennepin County Medical Center.

Jazdzewski was briefly treated at the medical center before he was booked into jail.
