Football Season Kicks Off Thursday

For high school football fans, Labor Day weekend fun starts a bit early.

Maple Grove Senior High begins its season at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at home against Armstrong High School. Osseo Senior High will open its season on the road at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 against Centennial High School. Heritage Christian Academy, which plays on a combined team with Providence Academy, starts its season at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at St. Agnes.

And Wayzata High School begins its season away from home at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 against Rosemount. Trojans fans can watch a live stream of the game on the MSBN Sports Network or on HighSchoolCube.com.

Other events to look forward to this weekend:

• Get on the water at French Regional Park: This nearby park has a trio of activities for the weekend. On Friday, there’s a stand-up paddleboard lesson from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, beginning paddlers can learn flatwater kayaking essentials from 9 a.m. to noon. And from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, there’s flatwater kayaking essentials for women.
