Maple Grove Becoming More Diverse, More Populous: Census
The city's population has topped 70,000 for the first time, the 2020 Census found, and BIPOC residents make up 22.7 percent of that number.
MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove has over 70,000 residents for the first time in history – and it is 7.5 percent more diverse than it was in 2010, the 2020 United States Census revealed.
The city's population increased from 61,567 in 2010 to 70,253 as of April 1, 2020, the Census found. The percentage of white, non-Latino residents decreased from 84.8 percent to 77.3 percent, while the percentage of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) residents increased from 15.2 percent to 22.7 percent.
Of the city's BIPOC residents, the 2020 Census found that 6.4 percent are Black or African American, 7.6 percent are Asian or Pacific Islander, 3.5 percent are Hispanic or Latino, 0.3 percent are American Indian or Alaska Native, 4.5 percent are more than one race and 0.5 percent reported that they are of another race not listed.

The Census results also highlight how Maple Grove's future population will be increasingly diverse, the report said: Each BIPOC racial group makes up a greater share of Maple Grove's under 18 population than its 18 and older population.
The Census also found that the number of housing units in Maple Grove has increased from 23,636 in 2010 to 27,507 in 2020. However, the number of persons per household decreased, from 2.69 to 2.62, while the population of people housed in group quarters increased from 50 to 192.
