Maple Grove Seniors Earn College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarships

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Four high school seniors from Maple Grove are set to receive college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships after being named among the winners Wednesday.
More than 150 higher education institutions are sponsoring annual awards of $500 to $2,000 for more than 2,600 students for up to four years of undergraduate studies at the sponsoring institution.

Hundreds To Graduate June 12 From Maple Grove High School
Amelia Jacobson, a senior at Wayzata High School, earned a scholarship from the University of Minnesota, where she plans to study chemistry, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which runs the program.

Wayzata High School senior Nathan Moon is due to receive an annual scholarship to St. Olaf College to study music.
Angelo Fiataruolo, a senior at Orono High School, also earned a scholarship from St. Olaf College, where he plans to study computer science, according to the NMSC.

Heritage Christian Academy senior Elijah Koopma earned an annual scholarship from Wheaton College to study music composition.
Plymouth's Matthew Steil, a senior at Heritage Christian Academy in Maple Grove, is due to receive a scholarship from Texas A&M University to study entrepreneurship.
Two high school seniors from Maple Grove earned National Merit Scholarships in May.
Daria M. Haner, a senior at Blake School's Northrop Campus in Minneapolis, is set to receive a $2,500 scholarship to help her pursue an education in science and research, according to the organization.
She was among a group of 2,500 scholarship winners that were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who analyzed students' applications, academic records and scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which students took as juniors in October 2020.

David Peng Xu, a senior at Wayzata High School, was awarded a National Merit Scholarship sponsored by Emerson Electric.
Corporate sponsors support scholarships for finalists who are children of employees, residents in the communities they serve or who plan to pursue an education in fields encouraged by the sponsor, according to the organization.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation plans to name about 1,400 additional winners in July. By the time those winners are announced, about 7,500 high school seniors will have won about $28 million in National Merit Scholarships in 2022, the organization said.
