Thunderstorms Likely Saturday As Maple Grove Ends Rainy Week

Over 2.7 inches of rain fell in parts of the city on Thursday. The Twin Cities are under an enhanced risk of severe weather on Saturday.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Over 2.7 inches of rain fell in part of Maple Grove on Thursday, only two days after the Twin Cities saw its biggest rainstorm of the year – and more rain is in the forecast for Saturday evening.

The National Weather Service has put the Twin Cities under an "enhanced" risk of severe weather on Saturday, and The Weather Channel is expecting storms to begin as early as 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Heavier thunderstorms will begin at around 7 p.m., according to TWS' forecast. There is a potential for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, and the chance of rain is 90 percent.

The north-northeast part of the city was hit the hardest by Thursday's storm, with 2.78 inches of rain, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. The west-southwest fared the best, as only 1.83 inches of rain fell there.
