The Minnesota Department of Education had some good news for Osseo Area Schools when it released its 2013 school accountability results Tuesday.
Osseo Senior High ranked in the top 20 percent of all high schools in the “Multiple Measurements Rating” results that the department released.
The Multiple Measurements Rating system grades schools in four categories—proficiency, student growth, achievement gap closure and the graduation rate.

In addition, North View IB World School scored high enough to be taken off the list of “priority schools”—meaning it was in the bottom 5 percent of schools when it received the designation in 2011. It is now classified as “celebration eligible,” a designation for strong-performing schools that aren’t in the top tier.
Across the state, 17 former priority schools scored high enough to lose the designation.

“Today’s release is about the hard work taking place every single day in our schools to ensure the success of each child,” a news release quoted Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius. “It is because of the inspiring commitment, dedication and collaboration of teachers, support staff and school leaders that we are seeing improvements in our Priority and Focus schools.”
Other news your should know about today:
- Osseo “Tackles Cancer”: Osseo students and the community came together to raise more than $2,400 for the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund as part of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association’s “Tackle Cancer” effort. Last year, Minnesota high school football programs raised more than $120,000 through Tackle Cancer initiatives. This year, they aim to raise $200,000. Osseo is doing its part. The school well surpassed the students’ goal of $1,000.
- Solar Panels Coming to Slumberland: The Maple Grove Slumberland Furniture is one of eight locations, in addition to the company’s corporate headquarters and warehouse, at which the company is installing solar panels. Edina-based Geronimo Energy started the installations Sept. 23 with Slumberland’s Roseville location. Installation is expected to continue through early November. More installations are planned for 2014. The project will offset 81,500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
