Plan for $850K-plus Homes Approved for Maple Grove Neighborhood (ccxmedia.org) — Maple Grove has approved a 33-home Juniper Hill development in the city’s southwest, with prices expected between $850,000 and $950,000. Neighbors raised concerns about Elm Road traffic, and the city plans calming measures, including added medians and a Dunkirk Lane roundabout, as traffic grows toward a projected 4,400 cars per day by 2040.
   

2. Ex-Treasurer Accused of Stealing $110K from Plymouth Wayzata Youth Softball Association (ccxmedia.org) — A Maple Grove resident who served as treasurer for the Plymouth Wayzata Youth Softball Association is charged with felony theft by swindle after a review of bank records allegedly uncovered more than $110,000 in unauthorized spending. The nonprofit, which funds youth softball expenses, reportedly discovered problems after IRS and payment issues surfaced, and the defendant is scheduled for a first court appearance on Jan. 21.
   

3. High school boys state basketball polls: Jan. 5, 2025 (postbulletin.com) — Maple Grove’s boys basketball team is currently ranked third in Minnesota’s Class 4A coaches poll, trailing only Wayzata and Tartan. The statewide rankings highlight how competitive the Crimson are this season, putting them firmly in the conversation among the top programs to watch.
   

4. Minnesota officials react to Gov. Tim Walz's decision to drop out of race (bringmethenews.com) — Gov. Tim Walz is ending his reelection bid to focus on tackling fraud in public programs, drawing praise from fellow Democrats and sharp criticism from Republicans. One of his loudest critics is a Maple Grove state lawmaker running for governor, who leads a fraud oversight committee Democrats call a political stunt, keeping Maple Grove voices central in this unfolding race.
