Resident Rescued From Large Fire In Maple Grove

A resident in a wheelchair was saved from a burning home after officers used a police car as a platform to reach them on the second floor.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove firefighters and police saved a resident in a wheelchair from a large fire early Sunday morning, according to officials.

Firefighters were called around 3:20 a.m. Sunday to a fire at a fourplex in the 9300 block of Juneau Lane North, near Lakeview Knolls Park, KSTP reports. Several residents evacuated the home before first responders arrived, but a resident in a wheelchair was still on a second-floor balcony, city officials said in a news release.

Three residents were treated for smoke inhalation during the fire, which displaced residents of two of the home’s four units, KSTP reports.

Officials said the fire started in the garage before spreading to the adjacent home. Maple Grove and Hennepin County officials were still investigating the fire as of Sunday afternoon.
