Some Drinking Water In Andover Is Contaminated: MPCA

Health officials found high levels of the chemical 1,4-dioxane — "a likely carcinogen" — in private residential wells in Andover.

ANDOVER, MN — The water in several private residential wells in Andover is contaminated, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced Wednesday.

Health officials found high levels of the chemical 1,4-dioxane — "a likely carcinogen" — in private wells near Bunker Lake Boulevard and Crosstown Boulevard.

The source of the contamination is being investigated. Residents with contaminated wells were notified and are currently receiving bottled water.

The city water supply in Andover, however, remains safe for drinking.

"Andover residents using a municipal water supply have access to safe drinking water," the PCA said in a statement.

"Andover works hard to provide residents with safe and reliable municipal water supply that meets federal and state water quality requirements. They work with the Minnesota Department of Health to test drinking water for more than 100 contaminants."
