Winter Break Extended At Osseo Area Schools

ISD 279 officials canceled classes Dec. 20-22 to give students and staff more time to "re-energize" over the winter break.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Students in Osseo Area Schools will have more than two full weeks off for winter break after the district canceled class from Dec. 20-22.

The break was originally scheduled to start Dec. 23 but officials moved it up “for the health and wellbeing of all” and to give students and staff more time to “re-energize.”

Schools will reopen Jan. 3 as planned, district officials said in a news release.

“Having some extra time to recover will help kick the new year off in a stronger fashion,” officials said in the release.

The extended winter break means students will have to attend class virtually on Jan. 31 and May 2, which were due to be professional development days for staff.

Seniors will be required to attend school through June 8, though June 9 is still the final day of class for all other students, the release states.
