1. No one was injured Thursday afternoon when a gunman opened fire inside the Mall of America. Bloomington Police Department Chief Booker Hodges said the shooting stemmed from an "altercation" between two groups at the Nike Store. The suspect fled on foot and had not been located as of late Thursday night. (CNN)

2. A Ramsey County Sheriff’s deputy was found dead in his car Monday in Arden Hills. A cause of death has not been determined for Dallas Edeburn, but “a preliminary autopsy showed no signs of injury or trauma.” A GoFundMe page has been launched for his wife and 6-month-old son. (Patch)
3. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey endorsed Democratic candidate Don Samuels in the 5th district Congressional race. Officials from St. Louis Park, Edina, Golden Valley and New Hope did the same. Samuels is running against incumbent Rep. Ilhan Omar. The primary is Aug. 9. (Patch)
4. City Council members confirmed Minneapolis’ first community safety commissioner at a Thursday meeting. Dr. Cedric Alexander will begin Aug. 8 in the role, “created to transform policing and public safety after George Floyd's murder.” (KARE11)
5. The Uptown Art Fair begins today near Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue. The fest dates back to 1964 and is the second-most attended event in the state. (City)
