“We have taken an evidence-based, community-centered approach in Minneapolis that integrates lived experiences into the important work of violence prevention and intervention,” said Frey. “The American Rescue Plan funding is helping our Office of Violence Prevention build even more proactive programs with deep connections to neighborhoods most impacted by violence. We appreciate the collaborative and ongoing support of the CVIC and are grateful to be contributing to the larger conversations around these efforts.”

The CVIC is a 16-jurisdiction cohort of mayors, law enforcement, CVI experts, and philanthropic leaders committed to using American Rescue Plan funding or other public funding to increase investment in their community violence intervention infrastructure. Event was closed to press at direction of CVIC.

Through the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), Minneapolis uses a community-focused, public health approach to prevent violence and keep communities safe. OVP’s work helps to prevent violence, support those impacted by violence, and promote individual and community healing. These efforts work to break the cycle of violence by addressing it at three points: before it begins, at the first sign of risk, and after it happens.
