  • Chanhassen National Weather Service Headquarters: 6.0 inches
  • Eau Claire, WI: 2.8 inches

Chanhassen topped the list with the highest recorded total of 6.0 inches, while Eau Claire saw significantly lighter accumulation at just under 3 inches. MSP Airport recorded a moderate 5.2 inches, reflecting the variability of snowfall in the region.

Another inch of snow fell overnight across parts of the metro as well.

Meteorologists note that this system brought steady snowfall throughout much of the area, with heavier bands concentrated closer to the Twin Cities metro. The impacts on travel were noticeable, with slick roads and flight delays reported.

While the snowfall created a winter wonderland, it also led to dangerous travel conditions. The Minnesota State Patrol reported the following crash statistics for Dec. 19:

  • 38 injury crashes
  • 1 fatal crash
  • 281 vehicles off the road
  • 28 vehicles spun out
  • 37 jackknifed semis
