1. Eleven people in Minnesota died of COVID-19 yesterday, according to the state health department’s daily report. More than 12,500 Minnesotans have died after contracting the virus since March 2020. (KARE11)
2. Wednesday night’s storms in the Twin Cities set a daily record for the area, with 1.94 inches of rain reported. The previous record for May 11 was 1.55 inches. Thousands of people were left without power Thursday. (Patch)

3. Minnesota Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman tested positive for COVID-19, she announced Wednesday via Twitter. She is working remotely and “feeling fine” because she is vaccinated. (Reformer)
4. A portion of westbound Interstate 94 will be closed in Minneapolis this weekend for concrete pavement repairs. The stretch between I-35W and Nicollet Avenue will close tonight at 10 p.m. and is expected to reopen early Monday. (Patch)
