1. Former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane pleaded guilty Wednesday to aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the murder of George Floyd. Prosecutors are asking for a three-year prison sentence for Lane on state charges. He and other fellow officers Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao have already been convicted in federal court for violating Floyd’s civil rights. (Patch)

2. The Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center is experiencing a crisis-level staffing shortage, city officials report. Several 911 dispatchers are burning out due to working six or seven days per week. “Some calls are going into over-ring, and some calls are being missed to the point where we have to call people back," an employee told KSTP. 3. Community members gathered Wednesday night to remember six-year-old Aniya Allen, who was shot and killed in north Minneapolis one year ago. No one has been arrested in connection with her killing, which occurred last May at 36th and Penn avenues. (CBS)

4. Target’s first-quarter profit dropped 52 percent from last year, the Minneapolis company reported this week. Officials say inflation and high costs are the cause, but that customer spending “is returning to something more similar to before the pandemic.” (KARE11)

5. Real estate developer Hines plans to build a 29-story tower in downtown Minneapolis, the company announced this week. The building known as “900 Marquette” is expected to open in 2026 and “will cater to a post-pandemic workforce.” (Paid source: Star Tribune)
