1. Twin Cities nurses rallied in Minneapolis Wednesday in pursuit of new contracts. Members of the Minnesota Nurses Association began picketing at Abbott Northwestern Hospital asking employers to “put patients ahead of profits.” Their current contracts expire June 30. (Patch)
2. Two people are suing the City of Minneapolis and former police officer Derek Chauvin, claiming they were “victims of excessive force and racial discrimination at the hands of Chauvin in 2017.” Several other officers are also named in the suits. (BTMN)

3. Five more Minnesotans died of COVID-19 over the holiday weekend, the state health department reports. More than 480 people are currently hospitalized with the virus across the state. (BMTN)
4. Minnesota politicians are continuing the call for gun control laws a week after 19 children were shot and killed at a Texas elementary school. Gov. Tim Walz called for the adoption of red flag laws while Sen. Amy Klobuchar wrote, “Only action will begin to solve this deadly crisis." (Patch)
5. A new Four Seasons hotel opened Wednesday in Minneapolis. The 36-story luxury building is located at 245 Hennepin Ave. in the North Loop neighborhood and is considered the city’s only five-star hotel. (KARE11)
