📰 News we're reading

1. FOX 9 Reporter And Anchor Leaving Station After Nearly 3 Years (patch.com) — Minneapolis viewers will soon say goodbye to FOX 9 reporter and anchor Se Kwon, who is leaving the Twin Cities station after nearly three years on air. A Minnesota native, Kwon reflected on the honor of telling local stories before announcing she will join FOX 32’s morning team in Chicago, with her final FOX 9 newscast set for Dec. 26.

2. No Attacks Found After ICE Said Its Agents Were Surrounded In Minneapolis: Hennepin Sheriff (patch.com) — Hennepin County officials are clarifying what happened after a call claimed federal agents were under attack by dozens of agitators in south Minneapolis. Deputies found no assaults or injuries, but did help agents leave a blocked area, later stressing that the sheriff’s office does not take part in civil immigration enforcement and focuses on public safety for everyone in the county.

3. Minneapolis leaders reach agreement on 2026 budget (kstp.com) — Minneapolis leaders have struck a 2026 budget deal that keeps core city services funded and protects the municipal workforce while reflecting shared priorities. Mayor Jacob Frey and Council Vice President Aisha Chughtai highlight changes to emergency housing vouchers, a non-fatal shooting task force, and civilian investigators, even as Frey warns added spending could pressure future property taxes.

4. BCA identifies armed suspect, Minneapolis officer who fired shots at him (kstp.com) — Minneapolis residents now know the names of the officer and armed man involved in last week’s police shooting incident on Fifth Avenue South. State investigators say Officer Ariel Luna Sanchez fired at 26-year-old Hanun Mohamed Awow after Awow allegedly opened his apartment door holding a handgun, though Awow was not injured and was taken into custody as the BCA reviews body camera footage.

5. ICE flights at MSP exposed (minnpost.com) — Undisclosed ICE “shuttle” flights are quietly operating out of Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, often avoiding public tracking and reporting. The roundup also notes arson charges in the Lutsen Lodge fire case, a proposed statewide cut to walleye limits, and a mixed Minnesota job market with rising unemployment despite job growth.
