ST. PAUL, MN — The political group FairVote Minnesota on Wednesday launched its second unofficial state flag poll using ranked-choice voting. The new poll comes after the State Emblems Redesign Commission narrowed down the potential new flag designs to three finalists.

"While the commission is responsible for selecting the final design, FairVote Minnesota wanted to give Minnesotans the opportunity to (unofficially) weigh in and created a new state flag ranked vote of the three final designs," FairVote said.

"Ranked choice voting is easy, fun and the best way to decide which design has majority support."

A majority of participants in FairVote's previous poll chose F29. Despite that result, the commission rejected F29 during its meeting Tuesday.

Next steps for State Emblems Redesign Commission

Commission members are expected to choose a final flag design at its next meeting on Friday. They are also expected to finalize any modifications for the state seal, which they selected last week.

Under state law, the commission must develop and adopt a new design for the official state flag and the official state seal no later than Jan. 1, 2024.
