1. A state prosecutor from the Derek Chauvin trial has been nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Jerry W. Blackwell was nominated by President Joe Biden, the White House announced Wednesday. (Patch)

2. Eight Minnesotans died Wednesday after contracting COVID-19, the state health department reports. More than 12,700 people across the state have died since the pandemic began. (CBS)

3. The City of Minneapolis will celebrate Juneteenth this weekend. A parade will be held Sunday and several state and local offices will be closed Monday in recognition of the holiday, which commemorates the date in 1865 when enslaved people were freed. (Patch)
