These Are The Top 20 Safest Towns In Minnesota: Safewise 2025 List

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Safewise has released its rankings of the safest cities in every U.S. state, including Minnesota. The report was released last month and named the safest cities in the country based on crime rates and other data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Montevideo, located in west-central Minnesota, was named the safest town in Minnesota, according to the 2025 State of Safety in America rankings from Safewise.com.

Montevideo claimed the no. 1 spot for the third year in a row, reporting zero violent or property crimes.

Among the 20 safest cities in Minnesota, none reported a murder, and several, including Montevideo, West Hennepin, Lonsdale, and St. James, had no vehicle thefts.

West Hennepin, which came in at no. 2, had 10 property crimes, which were all classified as larceny or theft, according to the report.

Every city on the list had fewer than seven property crimes per 1,000 people, and most saw a year-over-year drop in property crime, SafeWise said.

Half experienced decreases in both violent and property crime.

Lino Lakes, North Branch, and Lake City have seen crime decline for two consecutive years.

Lino Lakes rose 22 spots to No. 13, North Branch jumped 42 spots to No. 16, and St. James climbed 34 spots to No. 20.
