Woman Arrested In Minneapolis Crash That Left 2 Dead, Hurt 3 Others

MINNEAPOLIS — A 38-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide following a crash on Monday in north Minneapolis that left two people dead and three others injured.
Teniki L. Steward, identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, was taken into custody Tuesday morning after being discharged from the hospital. She is now being held at the Hennepin County Jail.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Emerson Avenue North and 26th Avenue North around 10:20 a.m. According to police, Steward was driving northbound on Emerson when her vehicle collided with another traveling eastbound on 26th Avenue.

The eastbound vehicle, occupied by two women, veered off the road after the collision, striking a bus shelter where a 17-year-old boy was waiting for a ride to school.
One of the women in the eastbound vehicle died at the scene, while the other was extricated by Minneapolis Fire crews and transported to North Memorial Health Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The vehicle driven by Steward was occupied by her and another passenger. Both of whom were initially hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The 17-year-old boy at the bus shelter was transported to Hennepin Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
