Eagle Brook Church Plans Minnetonka Expansion

Plans for the new location include a 60,000 square foot building that will include a 1,200 seat auditorium and two-story parking ramp.

MINNETONKA — Eagle Brook Church, a Baptist megachurch with nine locations in the Twin Cities metro area and one in Rochester, is planning to expand to Minnetonka. The targeted site is a wetland near the corner of Wayzata Boulevard and Interstate 494.

Plans for the new location include a 60,000 square foot, one-story building that will include a 1,200 seat auditorium. There will also be a two-story parking structure that will fit 550 parking spaces.

The project will be reviewed by a Minnetonka planning commission on Feb. 17. If approved, the church plans to break ground this fall, and complete the project by fall 2023.

Not everyone is in favor of the plan, however. Nearly 900 people have signed a petition hoping to sway the city to reject the plan.

"The traffic, environmental, and quality of life impacts to residents is immeasurable (not to mention the financial impact due to the immediate devaluation of surrounding homes)," the petition on Change.org reads.

"Other EBC locations typically have more than capacity attendance and there is no place for overflow parking in this location."

Eagle Brook Church has current locations in Anoka, Blaine, Ham Lake, Lakeville, Lino Lakes, Rochester, Spring Lake Park, Wayzata, White Bear Lake, and Woodbury.
