Minnetonka To Host Community Drop-Off Event On June 4

At the event, Minnetonka residents can dispose of items like appliances, tires, carpet, furniture and lumber. Charges apply for many items.

MINNETONKA, MN —The city of Minnetonka has announced that it will host a Special Community Drop-Off Event early next month where Minnetonka residents can dispose of appliances, tires and other large household items.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 4 in the parking lot of Minnetonka Public Works, 11522 Minnetonka Boulevard.

A list of accepted items is available online, and also includes vehicle batteries, bicycles, carpet and padding, fluorescent bulbs, furniture, lumber, propane tanks and scrap metal.

There are charges for many items, including: $10 for each appliance, $1 per square yard for carpeting and padding, $5 or $10 for chairs (depending on size), $15 for a loveseat, $20 for a couch or sofa, $30 for a hide-a-bed, $5 for sectionals, dressers, chests, tables and other furniture.

Other charges include: $25 per cubic yard of lumber, $25 for mattresses and box springs, $1 or $5 for propane tanks (depending on size), $5 for dirty scrap metal, $5 per car, trailer or light truck tire, $8 for each tire on a rim, $30 for each tractor or truck tire on a split rim, $5 for toilets and non-metal sinks, $25 per cubic yard for windows.

Among the items that will be collected for free are: vehicle batteries, bicycles, fluorescent bulbs, clean scrap metal and used clothing, towels and bedding.

The city also has a list of items that will not be accepted: garbage and household hazardous waste, electronics, copiers and fax machines and household batteries.

Details about disposing of those items is available on the Minnetonka website.

According to the city, payment for disposal of the items can be made via cash or by checks payable to the City of Minnetonka.

The city also said that attendees likely will have shorter wait times at the event if they arrive later in the day because many residents choose to line up early for the drop-off event.

The city will host a second Special Community Drop-off Event on Sept. 10.
